Re “Accountability Has Its Vote” (Jay Goldberg, January 6): I agree it’s time to end taxpayer donations to political parties. Why, as a taxpayer, do I support political parties that I will not vote for? Premier Doug Ford promised to end this unfair system four years ago. Maybe it’s coming. The latest requests for donations from the PC Party of Ontario are revealing: $ 1,550, $ 800, $ 500 or whatever. Are you kidding right? You say you are for “ordinary people”. I didn’t know you had such a great sense of humor.

The gangster carnage continues. Among the police departments around the GTA, one member of the police force would surely have the cojones to stand up to the awakened politicians and demand that the police be allowed to revert to proactive policing instead of arriving at the scene of the dead and victims. gunshot wounds. victims. Gangsters are free to roam the streets with guns in their pockets ready to shoot at the slightest provocation, knowing that politicians have ensured that the police are not allowed to interfere with them. Doug Ford, have you watched what’s going on?

This weekend I spent hours watching tennis, skating and curling. But to my surprise, Canadian athletes in these sports were overlooked in your Monday newspaper. First big event: the Canadian Skating Championships – it’s an annual event. No front page coverage, no photos of 12 medalists, many of whom will represent Canada at the Olympics. These are on the rise for the most part, as most of the participants in the last Olympics are retired. The new faces must be presented to Canadians and supported by the Toronto Sun. Second big event: ATP Cup held in Australia – Denis and Felix won this team event despite Denis testing positive for COVID on arrival and isolation. They played the best tennis that I have seen them play. They are a great story. Third big event: Alberta Provincial Curling Championships. Team Walker won an entry in the Tournament of Hearts. I watched Laura Walker as a junior player at Scarborough Golf Club – she is from Ontario. Big story. So instead I see the Raptors on the front page. I support the Raptors, but it was ONE win! I see four pages covering the NFL? Oh good? Are we in bed with the Americans? I see a half-page cover of losing head coach Culley (Texas) with a large photo of him. Is this considered important? Oh good? You are overloaded with American sports. As a longtime reader, I want to see the Sun give some love to our Canadian athletes, not just the Leafs and Raptors. Let’s see balanced reports and smart prioritization.

(You’re right, and we’ll be featuring several of our amazing athletes in the coming weeks)
