Albertans are facing a cost of living crisis not seen in decades.
Grocery prices have gone up astronomically, gas prices were close to $2 a liter and utility rates are almost triple what they were under the NDP government.
Additionally, as a direct result of UCP policy decisions, Albertans are paying hundreds of dollars more in income tax, property tax, tuition, tuition, student loans, camping, utilities, and auto insurance. .
Despite all this, UCP Finance Minister Jason Nixon recently asserted that life is already affordable for Albertans, that we are not feeling the effects of inflation, and that all is well, if not better, thanks to the choices his government has made.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The entire UCP government has lost touch with the challenges facing everyday families. They don’t understand the reality of Alberta families trying to put food on their kitchen tables or small business owners struggling to keep the lights on with utility bills that are hundreds of dollars more than previously.
They don’t understand the stress of parents trying to pay expensive bills for back-to-school in September or the reality facing future leaders who want to pursue post-secondary education but face massive tuition increases. and increased interest on any student loans they may have. turn towards.
Albertans do not need their government to deny the reality they face. They need an urgent plan of action to deal with their current struggles and worries.
I hear every day from people who feel a little more behind every month. There is an affordability crisis in this province. To deny it disrespects people who are faced with tough decisions about buying a home, starting a family, or expanding their business, seeing the cost of everything rise.
Albertans deserve a government they can trust to make decisions that put money back in your pocket. A government that will get up in the morning and work hard on their behalf, fighting to improve the lives of people across the province, rather than fighting in increasingly dramatic ways.
An Alberta NDP government will have a plan for today’s challenges and a plan for the surplus that prepares us for tomorrow. Our commitment to you is that if the Alberta NDP forms the next government, we will fight every day to make life more affordable for you and your family.
