Laura Modi, co-founder and CEO of the startup of Formula Bobbie, is responsible for transforming an industry which, according to her, has stagnated for decades and to move culture around how parents feed their babies.
Modi, an old Airbnb executive, had the idea of Bobbie after the birth of his first child.
“I remember entering a pharmacy buying infants and hoping that they would give me a bag that you could not see through, because I felt so embarrassed by the product that I was buying,” recalls Modi in a new episode of the podcast “CNBC Changakers and Power Player” with Julia Boorstin of CNBC.
Modi was appointed to the inaugural list of CNBC modifiers in 2024.
It was not only the emotional aspects of the consumer transaction that motivated Modi, but the fact that the product itself was an indication of a change market.
“The granola bars have changed, bags of chips, sodas, but yet a product as important as the infantile formula was always the same as what I was 40 years ago,” explains Modi.

According to Modi, the infantile formula is a large market and a classic example of a market where holders have not been encouraged to innovate.
