Large drug seizure in car in Australia from Canada

TORONTO — Four people have been arrested in Australia after drugs worth more than $155 million AUD ($140 million CAD) were seized from a vintage car shipped from Canada.

Australian Police in New South Wales say border agents received a tip about a shipping container that arrived in Sydney Harbor earlier this month from Canada.

Officers X-rayed the contents of the 1960 Bentley S2 car and discovered a large amount of narcotics hidden behind the headlights.

Police recovered 161 kilograms of crystal meth and 30 kilograms of cocaine from the vehicle.

Police authorities on Thursday arrested three men and a woman, all between the ages of 22 and 25. They face a total of 23 charges, including drug offences.

Several vehicles and more than $1.1 million in cash were also seized.

Officers from specialist squads from Australia’s State Crime Command, Australian Customs, Australian Federal Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
