Kremlin clarifies Putin’s remark on Ukraine — RT Russia and the former Soviet Union

Russia uses ‘only a fraction’ of its military capacity in neighboring country, spokesman says
President Vladimir Putin’s observation that Russian troops in Ukraine « haven’t even really started anything yet » simply states that Moscow is far superior in its military strength, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.
On Thursday, Putin challenged Western leaders who seek Russia’s defeat on the battlefield in Ukraine to follow through on the threat. « Let them try. We haven’t even really started anything yet. he claimed.
President « just reminded [his audience] that military potentials [of Ukraine and Russia] were immeasurable, said Peskov.
« The Russian force is so large that only a small fraction of it is engaged in the special military operation, » said the official.
Western expectations that Ukraine can defeat Russia militarily are « absurd and only adds to the suffering of the Ukrainian people », he added.
The United States and its allies have declared a strategic defeat of Russia as their objective in Ukraine and are supplying arms and training to forces in kyiv. Senior Western officials have said that Ukraine would be able to beat Russia on the battlefield with their help.
The Ukrainian government accepted and broke off peace talks with Russia, which took place during the first month of the conflict. Moscow believes kyiv has been pressured into its hardline stance by its Western backers.
Russia sent troops to Ukraine on February 24, citing kyiv’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, intended to give the Donetsk and Luhansk regions special status within the Ukrainian state. The protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were first signed in 2014. Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has since admitted that kyiv’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to save time and « to create powerful armed forces. »
In February 2022, the Kremlin recognized the Donbas republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. kyiv insists the Russian offensive was unprovoked.
