Huntr/xa covered Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show,” with the singing stars of Netflix’s hit “KPop Demon Hunters” making their late-night debut Tuesday for their first full live performance of the chart-topping single “Golden.”
EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami sing for the roles of Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong) and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo) respectively in “KPop Demon Hunters”. The animated film was released on June 20, and by the end of August, it was the streamer’s most-watched film of all time, beating the previous title holder, “Red Notice,” with 236 million views. Directed by Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang, the film follows a K-pop supergroup who must balance their lives as world-famous pop stars with their secret side as demon slayers.
In their interview with Fallon, the late-night host announced to the trio that the film’s soundtrack had gone platinum, referencing the most recent Billboard 200 album chart. “The KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack recorded a second non-consecutive week at No. 1 in the most recent tracking week. Of the 102,000 equivalent album units earned in the final week of tracking, the record racked up 117 million official on-demand streams.
In September, “Golden” made history by leading the Hot 100 for a fifth consecutive week, making it the longest-running No. 1 song by an animated group in the chart’s history.
Additionally, the “KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack has a total of four tracks in the top ten of the Hot 100. Aside from “Golden”, fan-favorite tracks “Your Idol”, “Soda Pop” and “How It’s Done” reached No. 4, No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.
On October 4, Huntr/x stopped by another late-night TV staple, “Saturday Night Live.” Appearing as themselves alongside host and musical guest Bad Bunny, they performed an abbreviated version of “Golden” for the three-time Grammy winner, who played the role of a dopey superfan of the fictional girl group.
