Judge Stephen Breyer retires – WSJ

We didn’t often agree with Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, but max out his creditable 58-year career that included stints in all three branches of government. Judge Breyer, 83, resigned midday Thursday to make way for his successor, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Mr Justice Breyer’s 28 years in the High Court were marked by time he spent in the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division and the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he helped deregulate airlines at the late 1970s. As a judge, he was a pragmatist fond of balanced trials, not an ideologue. He broke ranks to reign over religious freedom in Lutheran Trinity (2017). His legal and economic vision of antitrust may soon be sorely missed.
