John DeLorean’s Daughter Kat DeLorean To Launch Detroit-Built Sports Car Next Year

DeLorean is back.
Still.
Kat DeLorean, daughter of famed automotive executive John DeLorean, has announced the launch of a new automotive company called DeLorean Next Generation Motors (DNG Motors), which aims to bring a modern version of her father’s eponymous sports car to market .
The company says the sleek, gull-winged two-seater will be built in Detroit, with the first production version due to be unveiled late next year.
The news comes after the debut this year of the Texas-based DeLorean Motor Company’s Alpha5 four-seat car. The new DMC began as a DeLorean parts sales and restoration facility that acquired the original brand name and trademarks.
DeLorean, who is a cybersecurity engineer, said she did not approve of the company’s use of her father’s name, but her estate had previously reached an agreement with the company over the rights.
DNG released images of his car, the Model-JZD, which was named after John Z. DeLorean and written by Spanish designer Angel Guerra based on the classic DMC-12.
A company representative told Fox News Digital that it was designed around an electric powertrain, but is in the process of determining the best option for the final version.

He will follow what he said was John DeLorean’s goal of developing « affordable automobiles that are safer, more reliable and more efficient. »
The first iteration of the DeLorean Motor Company built around 9,000 cars at its factory in Belfast, Northern Ireland, from 1981 to 1982, when it declared bankruptcy following the arrest of John DeLorean for drug trafficking , for which he was later acquitted.
DeLorean Motor Company has not yet responded to a Fox News Digital request for comment.
