JK Rowling’s money helps ease the pain of losing fans

Famed Harry Potter author JK Rowling says she’s not worried about losing fans to her big stacks of cash.

Rowling – who has been repeatedly called out for making what many believe to be anti-trans remarks – hit back at a Twitter user who slammed her on Thursday by citing her fortune from the Harry Potter franchise.

“How do you sleep at night knowing that you lost an entire audience by buying your books? the person tweeted at the author.

Rowling reported that she had no problems with insomnia.

« I’ve read my most recent royalty checks and find the pain is going away pretty quickly, » she said in a sizzling throwback.

Rowling’s net worth has been estimated between $650 million and $1.2 billion, according to Business Insider.

Fans rallied around Rowling’s return.

« JK Savage », author Matthew Loop replied.

Many were quick to support Rowling in the comments, pointing to the impact the Harry Potter series has had on them, their children or their students as young readers.

« I was a headteacher in the mid 2000’s getting the boys to read was a MASSIVE educational problem that there was no solution to and then came the wonderful @JK Rowling« , another user tweeted. « It’s hard to overstate this effect. »

Others, however, couldn’t look past the author’s alleged transphobia.

« You have singled out and vilified an extremely vulnerable minority group, » said journalist Walker Bragman tweeted in a reply. “I can’t help but think of kids struggling with their identity and just wanting to be accepted. You, with your massive platform, made it harder for them. And it sucks.

Rowling’s scandal with the trans community dates back to 2020 when she tweeted about gender.

« If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction, » she tweeted in June 2020, sparking the initial backlash. “If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women around the world is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of gender robs many of the ability to meaningfully discuss their lives. It’s not hate to tell the truth.

Rowley has been called a TERF, an acronym for “trans-exclusive” radical feminist, by critics for her beliefs and has faced death threats since her remarks.

Many stars of the « Harry Potter » movies even walked away from his comments.
