President Joe Biden continues to test negative for virus, White House says
First Lady Jill Biden has again tested positive for coronavirus, coming down with a « bounce » infection just days after recovering from a previous Covid case and ending self-quarantine.
The first lady’s deputy communications director Kelsey Donohue broke the news on Wednesday, saying that despite testing negative for the virus the previous day, Biden had since tested positive in an antigen test, calling it a « bounce » Case.
« The first lady has not experienced any recurrence of symptoms and will remain in Delaware where she has reset isolation procedures, » Donohue said, adding that the White House medical unit had traced his contacts and notified his next of kin.
After first contracting Covid-19 in mid-August, Biden’s office said she had tested negative multiple times and would end a period of self-isolation on Sunday, when she left South Carolina to join the president in their home state of Delaware.
The 71-year-old first lady was quarantined for five days in South Carolina while living « cold symptoms » although he received a total of four doses of vaccine, including two boosters.
President Biden himself tested positive for Covid in July, and later had a similar case « bounce » case that his doctor attributed to the antiviral drug Paxlovid. While the first lady received the same treatment for her initial infection, so far the White House has not linked her rebound case to the drug.
