TOKYO (AP) — Japanese low-cost airline Zipair is changing the design of its tail from the letter “Z,” which resembles the symbol of Russian tanks.
Zipair Chairman Shingo Nishida made the announcement this week at Narita Airport near Tokyo. He acknowledged the resemblance and confusion it might invite, noting « the invasion of Ukraine. »
For now, the letter has been covered with a decal pattern. By the end of the year, the airline will update the livery of all its aircraft.
The carrier is part of the Japan Airlines Group, or JAL, and was established in 2018. It operates four Boeing 787-8s, with flights connecting Narita to Bangkok, Seoul, Honolulu, Singapore and Los Angeles.
