In images, in pictures. Fire of the Teste-de-Buch: the flames to the ocean

Already a week that the pines burn in La Teste-de-Buch, near Arcachon. During the night from Monday to Tuesday, 2000 additional hectares were destroyed by fire, for a total of 6500 hectares according to the prefecture. On Monday, a huge plume of smoke was visible from the Arcachon basin. At the foot of the Dune du Pilat, the five campsites, from which 6,000 holidaymakers had been evacuated, « 90% burned down », said the prefect of Gironde, Fabienne Buccio. Many explosions sounded Monday afternoon, due to gas canisters left in campsites and abandoned restaurants. A total of 18,000 people were evacuated in the area, including an Ehpad as a preventive measure overnight.
