I’m in debt and faked my own death on Facebook – « corpse » pictures and all

An Indonesian mother is accused of faking her own death in an elaborate attempt to avoid paying off a debt she owed another woman.

The alleged scammer – known only as ‘L’ – allegedly owed an undisclosed sum to associate Maya Gunawan, with the money originally due on November 20.

According to the Daily Star, L was unable to secure the money by that date and asked Gunawan to extend the loan until December 6.

That day has come and gone – and Gunawan was shocked when she took to Facebook on December 12 to find a post from L’s daughter announcing that her mother had been killed in a car crash.

The post claimed that L died after an incident at a bridge near her home in Medan, North Sumatra. He further stated that she would be buried 370 miles away in the city of Banda Aceh.

The woman – known only as ‘L’ – reportedly posted the fictional account on her daughter’s Facebook on December 12. One of the images was a snap of the alleged crook in a shroud playing dead.

Facebook’s update included a photo of a « corpse » wrapped in a sheet and a different image of a stretcher being transported to a hospital. Two additional images showed L wrapped in a « shroud » with her eyes closed as she played dead.

However, the girl reportedly admitted the post was a lie, claiming her mother hacked into her Facebook account to write the fiction.

The stretcher image is said to have been a screenshot from a TV show, while the snaps of L in a shroud were taken to make his « deception more convincing », according to the Daily Star.

The daughter reportedly admitted the message was a lie and her mother hacked into her Facebook account. The message included this image.

Speaking with local media. Gunawan claims she did not go to the police.

She says she is still waiting for L to repay the amount owed, but reports that she is no longer reachable.
