We learned a few things on Tuesday, 15 days before the kick -off of the regular NBA season. We discovered, to begin with, that the Bucks and the Knicks had some conversations this summer concerning the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Basketball Unicorn of Milwaukee and Double MVP, a story reported by ESPN and confirmed by The Post.
We now know that discussions were likely to get to know each other and that there was not yet a real structure for an agreement implemented. And we are aware that things were cooled fairly quickly so that after a summit of a day between Antetokounmpo and the director general of Bucks Jon Horst in Greece, the Bucks and their star agreed to stay together in pursuit of an NBA championship to close the one they won together in 2021. It did not go further.
Again.
This is the biggest point to remember from Tuesday’s revelation, and the one that is most relevant to New York: it is clear that if the moment comes when Antetokounmpo chooses to do what so many of his superstar colleagues have done when they bored title quests in their own courtyard, he has a clear preference for a destination.
