How will the spectacle of the Bad Bunny Super Bowl shape American politics?

When Bad Bunny sang during the Grammy Awards ceremony in 2023, his performance was described in closed caes subtitles simply as “singing in English”. But that most Americans understand his words, he is undoubtedly an international icon.

Last week, the National Football League announced it as the headliner of half-time for the Super Bowl 2026. He will undoubtedly sing in Spanish. And surely, Con política.

The Super Bowl is perhaps one of the last Bipartisse unifiers in the country, but it would be naive to imagine that politics would suddenly be put aside.

In the hours following the announcement, Greg Kelly, a Newsmax host, called for an NFL boycott, smoking this “Da Rabbit” because he labeled it, “hates America, hates President Trump, hates ice, hates the English language! It’s just a terrible person. ”

The Puerto Rican superstar – legally appointed Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio and affectionately called Benito by his faithful fans – said that he had avoided tours in the American continent this year because he feared that federal immigration agents target these broadcasts.

The Trump administration has essentially confirmed these fears while Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Internal Security, said on Friday that immigration agents would be “everywhere” the event. His special assistant, Corey Lewandowski, was even more explicit, saying: “We will find you, we will understand you, we will put you in a detention center and we will expel you.”
