The snitches are getting richer.

Tired of seeing your savings sapped by the exorbitant cost of living in New York? Fear not, an enterprising TikToker has revealed a surefire way for New Yorkers to earn extra cash in just minutes – by telling idle trucks. A clip of this traffic-based side hustle currently has 1.3 million views as cash-strapped Gothamites scramble to find ways to earn extra money amid inflation fears.

« New Yorkers are making tens of thousands of dollars from their smartphones reporting idling trucks, » Will teases in the clip. He runs the TikTok account doobzee.eth, which details various alleged hacks, ranging from crypto speculation to NFTS rollover.

This latest get-rich-quick program leverages the New York Citizens Air Complaint program launched in 2019 by the New York Department of Environmental Protection, which offers ordinary citizens financial incentives to help report emissions violations in the whole city, CNBC reported.

To do their part in reducing smog, citizens simply take video of a truck idling for more than three minutes – a violation in New York.

They then upload the incriminating clip to the Idling Complaint System website, after which they can collect “25% of the ticket once paid,” Will explains in the video.

Fines for first-time offenders are $350, which means broadcast vigilantes can earn $87.50 in « just 3 minutes, » according to the clip. In fact, Will describes the case of an 81-year-old New York tipster named Paul Slapikas who claims to have won $64,000 this way.

Idle hands are the devil’s workshop, but an idle truck is a quick payday.

Environmental agencies consider the initiative important given that emissions from idling gasoline and diesel vehicles can cause a variety of health problems, including asthma, respiratory problems and cardiovascular problems, CNBC reported.

Although it looks like a free lunch, this side hustle can conversely prove dangerous to the health of the truck talker. « Be careful because a lot of people have been hit or even stabbed by truckers, » Will warns in the clip.

« I got stabbed three times, » Slapikas said, « and I never shed even a drop of blood. »

A tipster by the name of Patrick Snell claims that snitches can mitigate risk by holding their phone in their hands in a « discreet » way – although he claims that doesn’t always work. No pain, no gain, we guess.

Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make dough on the side without risking life and limb. An enterprising TikToker has reportedly discovered an ingenious way to earn $50,000 by Christmas – by simply reselling items on Shopify.
