Hillary Clinton Says She Twice Turned Down Bill Clinton’s Marriage Proposal On ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’

The Drew Barrymore Show continued its first week of Season 3 with a visit from Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, who stopped by to promote their new Apple TV+ series Bold and spill over to the early days of the relationship between Hillary and former President Bill Clinton.

Barrymore could barely hold on when she asked the former secretary of state if it was true that she had gone to Dillard’s to get her wedding dress at the last minute.

« Yeah, it is, » Hillary admitted, prompting Barrymore to enthusiastically throw himself back in his seat.

« But ask her how many she’s tried, » Chelsea interjected before her mother told the talk show host, « Only one, got what I wanted. »

Hillary then explained why it was at the last minute, revealing to the audience that Bill had asked her to marry him twice, to which she told him, « Not now, no. » Chelsea made sure to add, “But the third time was a charm,” as her mum finally agreed.

« [Bill] said, « Let’s hurry up before we change our minds, » Hillary explained. « So we said okay next Saturday – literally it was Thursday or Friday before the following Saturday. »

However, there was one important thing she almost forgot.

« So my mum came with my dad and she said, ‘Can I see your wedding dress?’ And I thought, ‘Oh my god, wedding dress. Oh wow. I need one of those,' » she recalled before adding, « And that was, like, Friday after noon and we went to Dillard’s and I found my dress.

But all’s well that ends well and despite the hasty wedding, the two have been married since 1975 and will be celebrating 47 years of marriage in October, without any public hitches, just a beautiful, smooth wedding for 47 years! Right? Right.
