The terrorist organization Hamas has reportedly accepted the ceasefire in Gaza and the peace plan set by the Trump administration.
According to The time of Israela peace agreement could be signed as early as Thursday.
“‘Palestinian resistance’ sources told Hezbollah-affiliated media outlet al-Mayadeen that Hamas has accepted a ceasefire deal in Gaza, adding that it will be signed on Thursday in Egypt,” the outlet reported Wednesday.
At a news conference Wednesday, President Trump said he may visit Egypt later this week for a possible peace deal.
“I might go there towards the end of the week. Maybe Sunday, actually. But there’s a good chance the negotiations will go very well,” the president said. “We’re dealing with Hamas and many countries, as you know, all Muslim countries are included, all Arab countries are included, as well as countries that are very rich and some that are not… Our final negotiation is with Hamas and it seems to be going well.”
According to Sky News, footage of the negotiations in Egypt shows “what appear to be delegates hugging and shaking hands”, which US correspondent Mark Stone said: “It looks like celebrations. »
“There is agreement among the negotiators that it will be Donald Trump who makes an official announcement, which ties in with the memo we were talking about earlier,” Stone said. “It seems like it’s a historic moment, that’s for sure. We don’t know the details, we don’t know to what extent the little sticky points have been resolved and agreed, but clearly to an extent that allows them to announce a deal if that’s what they’re going to do.”
A source also told Stone that Hamas could release the Israeli hostages – who were captured on October 7, 2023 – as early as this weekend.
The president confirmed that Israel and Hamas had signed the peace plan in an announcement on Truth Social.
“I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed the first phase of our peace plan. This means that ALL hostages will be released very soon and Israel will withdraw its troops along an agreed line as the first step towards a strong, lasting and eternal peace,” the president said.
“All parties will be treated fairly! This is a GREAT day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, all surrounding nations and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, who worked with us to make this historic and unprecedented event happen,” he added.
