Two Republican senators have urged Secretary of State Antony Blinken to reopen the US embassy in Kyiv to “symbolically affirm” Washington’s commitment to Ukraine.

“With Ukraine’s successful defense of Kyiv and the subsequent withdrawal of Russian forces from areas surrounding the capital, we encourage you to fully open the U.S. Embassy without delay,” the senators wrote. “America’s restored diplomatic presence in Kyiv will strengthen cooperation with a democratic partner as it conducts existential defense and symbolically affirms our nation’s commitment to Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty.”
At least 17 countries have reopened their embassies in Kyiv after Russian troops withdrew from areas north and east of the capital late last month, according to a Foreign Policy report.

The senators asked Blinken to provide a plan on personnel details and how the United States will “restore” embassy operations to pre-war levels.

The State Department did not immediately respond to questions from Fox News Digital about the reopening of the embassy in Kyiv.
