Goose vs geese: how to distinguish groups apart

Name a group, a bit like appointing a child, can be a delicate business. The nickname must be memorable. It should be intriguing but not impenetrable. It must be short, impactful and roll from the tongue. Ideally, this does not cause embarrassment or confusion.

According to these measures, the groups goose and geese succeed in all categories except the last. Change a pair of o for E and their names are interchangeable. Mix your singular and plural and you refer to a bird instead of a herd. Each group requires that you are a fan of music And A grammarian.

To make things more confusing, the two groups recently released albums and are currently on tour, which means that the two do interviews with various points of sale which must be careful not to mix things.

Last month, Oesse, a Brooklyn quartet, released his third studio album, “Getting Kille”, which was congratulated as one of the best records of the year and helped them to get a place on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday. In August, Goose, a quartet of Wilton, in Connecticut, abandoned his fifth studio album (and second this year), “Chain Yer Dragon”.

Rather logically, Goose came before the geese – the first formed in 2014, while the second met in 2016. The two groups have music links (Goose to Berklee College of Music in Boston; Geeese at the Brooklyn rock school in Brooklyn). Neither should be confused with the Atlanta Nu-Metal Silly Goose group.

As Rolling Stone said, “although these two outfits cannot be further away from each other in sound and style, they were inevitably joint by name.”

All of this is to say that a Peterson style field guide can be useful for saying the goose of geese.

What they look like

Think of Goose, who made countless comparisons with Phish, like a group of Jam with indie-rock shades. Said Pitchfork: “Goose has a separate capacity to put listeners in trance, even by stopping a little time.” And Rolling Stone described them as “musicians fearless of reveling in rubberian, guitar and keyboard grooves who threatened never to end.”

Consider geese as an indie-rock group with Jammy elements. Their new album “Rips opens the carcasses of Radiohead, the road and swans and parties there, in search of a big bloody smile”, according to GQ. Meanwhile, Pitchfork described “being killed” in this way: “A sound based on grooves and grooves, denying the structures of traditional rock music while following the same volley of tension and release.”

How they got their names

According to Rick Mitarotonda, the leader of Goose, the word was an absurd Dam Good Tacos, a restaurant in Fort Collins, in Colordo, where he worked.

Geese are the plurification of the nickname of guitarist Emily Green. In other words, geese have a member of the group named Goose.

How to distinguish them

The two groups include four scouring musicians who promote jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. But goose guys are a decade or so older and have facial hair that would make a lumberjack envious. And the members of the geese look more from Lake Silver than Lake Oswego.

Goose fans like geese? Do the goose fans like goose?

The groups come from fairly different musical worlds without overlapping too much in the Fandom, but there are notable exceptions. Trey Anastasio, the singer of Phish, joined Goose on stage on the radio City Music Hall and embarked on a joint tour with the group in 2022. He was also spotted during live shows.

And earlier this year, Oesse was the first act for Vampire Weekend, while the leader of the Vampire Weekend, Ezra Koenig, joined the goose on stage.

Was there a double goose geese invoice?

Not yet, although the groups have played at the same festival (Newport Folk Festival) the same day this year (July 25). “I hope they become good friends,” wrote the Stereogum music site. Fans can only hope. It would be a group.
