LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Glen Powell, star of the upcoming film “The Running Man,” has been named grand marshal of this year’s South Point 400.
The race will take place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday, October 12. Actor, producer and screenwriter Glen Powell will serve as grand marshal of the race, the Speedway announced Tuesday morning.
“It was a definite yes when I was asked to serve as grand marshal for the South Point 400,” Powell said. “I grew up around a love of speed and competition, and NASCAR racing embodies that passion like no other. Being part of this tradition in Las Vegas, with all the energy and enthusiasm of the fans, will be an unforgettable experience.”
The South Point 400 is the main event of the NASCAR fall weekend in Las Vegas and is a key race in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.

“Mixing his passion for adrenaline with NASCAR’s tradition of speed and spectacle, Powell’s role as Grand Marshal is a perfect fit. A licensed driver and actor known for portraying fearless characters from fighter drivers to storm chasers, Powell provides a true connection to the excitement of competition,” the Speedway wrote in a statement. “Powell’s presence at Las Vegas Motor Speedway injects Hollywood energy into the track while showcasing the speed, skill and thrill that define the best of NASCAR.”
Powell will join a “distinguished” list of celebrities and sports icons who have previously served as grand marshal at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which includes Morgan Freeman, Mark Wahlberg, Kim Kardashian, Tim Allen, UFC President Dana White and country music group Rascal Flatts.
Additionally, Powell’s appearance at the race will serve as promotion for “The Running Man,” directed by Edgar Wright and released in theaters on November 14, 2025. The film is based on a novel of the same name, written by Stephen King.
