George Pickens makes an Odell Beckham-like capture on TNF

If you were too busy waiting to see if Aaron Judge would tie Roger Maris on Thursday night, you missed a crazy Odell Beckham-style catch from Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens in Game 2 “Thursday Night Football” on Amazon Prime Video .

In the first quarter, with the Browns leading 7-0, Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trubisky threw to the right sideline at Pickens. The ball was thrown a little behind the rookie receiver, but he was able to twist around and reach out with his right hand to catch the ball in the air.

Pickens told reporters Tuesday he was open most of the time in the Steelers’ Week 2 loss to the Patriots.

“I’m just saying that because I’m a big guy who runs in the low 4.4s,” Pickens said, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “I always have a step on someone and my step is naturally longer than the other person, and I’m actually fast. I’m always going to have a step and I always feel like 99% of the time I’m open even if the ball comes in the air and the defender has time to catch up. But I’m open as soon as I step out of line.

Another angle from the take shows Pickens nearly perpendicular to the sideline.

Pickens’ stunts lead people to draw comparisons to Odell Beckham Jr.’s hold against the Cowboys in 2014 – a game the Giants lost.

The Steelers led the Browns to the two-minute warning before halftime at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland as the world got its second look at the Brownie the Elf logo.
