Gaurav Gogoi slams police summons to 2 journalists, says Assam in news again for ‘wrong reasons’

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday (August 20) criticized the summoning of two senior journalists by the Assam Police in a case registered on sedition charges, saying the state was “back in the news for all the wrong reasons” and was engulfed by “greed, corruption, incompetence and anarchy”.

Reacting to the Assam Police summoning senior journalists Siddharth Varadarajan and Karan Thapar in a case registered on charges of sedition, Gogoi said this is not the “Assam way” and the people of the state want leadership that will build the “Assam of their dreams”.

“Another day, another reason why Assam is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Greed, corruption, incompetence, anarchy. This is not the way of Assam. The people of Assam want leadership that will build the Assam of their dreams,” he wrote on ‘X’.
The Deputy Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha said a great Assam would be built on the basis of Assamese principles and sentiments.

“A bor (greater) Assam that will be powered by millions of talented and creative young people belonging to all ethnicities, religions and linguistic backgrounds,” he said.

The two journalists were summoned before the crime branch of the Guwahati city police on August 22.
