FortisBC said the leak was caused by a third party hitting the gas line at 200th Street and 76th Avenue around 11:18 a.m.

Fortis teams have been deployed to ensure safety on site and to assess the best way to shut off the gas.

At 3:00 p.m., the crews had not yet turned off the gas. This could result in some customers in the area losing service, a spokesperson said.

Fortis said there was no timetable for completion, but RCMP said the road would be closed until at least 10 p.m.

Global News is asking FortisBC for more details.
