Free influenza vaccination

All Quebecers who wish to be vaccinated against influenza can do so free of charge. This decision by the Ministry of Health comes after consultations with public health. This free vaccination will be effective from Friday.

Children aged six and under, and even healthcare workers should get vaccinated now, according to the ministry. The same goes for people over the age of 60, immunosuppressed people, pregnant women in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Individuals with chronic illnesses and caregivers should also be vaccinated immediately.

The rise of three viruses, influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) constitutes an explosive cocktail, according to the national director of public health, Luc Boileau. The effervescence of this cocktail justifies the high traffic of hospitals in the province, especially among children and adolescents.

The free vaccination is exceptional, due to the heavy traffic in the waiting rooms. People who have paid for the cost of being vaccinated against influenza previously cannot be reimbursed.

Public health specialists have been asking Quebec to make the flu vaccine free for several weeks.
