Fox decided to drop his comedy Swivel as well as our kind of people after only one season each.
The latter is particularly surprising because it was one of Fox’s first straight-to-series orders. Lee Daniels and Karin Gist’s show had skipped the network’s regular pilot season in an effort to move away from traditional development methods.
Inspired by Lawrence Otis Graham’s 1999 book, Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class, our kind of people starred Yaya DaCosta as Angela Vaughn, a single mother who embarks on a mission to reclaim her last name when she uncovers a dark secret about her own mother’s past.
Fox has ordered a total of 12 episodes with its finale airing in January. The show, whose cast also includes Morris Chestnut and Joe Morton, received mixed reviews from critics and a modest audience. It averaged just under 2.1 million viewers per episode according to Nielsen’s seven-day ratings.
Swivel had a decent premiere with high viewership after an NFL broadcast, but quickly slipped in the ratings. The comedy series starring Ginnifer Goodwin, Eliza Coupe and Maggie Q peaked in mid-season views and received generally positive reviews, but ended up averaging just 1.85 million viewers at the time. course of its 10 episodes.
Fox will have its initial presentation on Monday afternoon, before which the network is expected to announce more renewals and series orders. Swivel and our kind of people join the previously canceled The big jump in the canceled programs of this season. Live Comedies call me kat and Welcome to Flatch are still awaiting a decision as well as anime series Duncanville, Familiar and veteran dramas 911, 911: The Lone Star and the resident.
