FIFA investigating after backlash over celebrity chef’s World Cup antics – RT Sport News

Salt Bae was seen haranguing the Argentine players for photos after their title triumph

FIFA has launched an investigation into how famed Turkish chef Salt Bae was able to gain access to the pitch to join Argentine players during World Cup celebrations in Qatar.

The Turkish chef, real name Nusret Gokce, was seen kissing the World Cup trophy and asking for photos with players at the Lusail stadium on Sunday after Argentina beat France on penalties goal.

Several players were forced to take pictures, although Lionel Messi appeared to snub Salt Bae. Footage online showed awkward interactions as the chef tried to get his hands on the iconic trophy.

FIFA responded to the widespread bewilderment and fan backlash by issuing a statement on Thursday.

“Following a review, FIFA has established how individuals gained improper access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail Stadium on December 18. Appropriate internal action will be taken,” the indicated message.

FIFA rules generally state that only a select group of people can touch the famous golden trophy, including players and heads of state.

Salt Bae, 39, shared a series of images and videos of himself alongside Argentine players with his 49.9 million Instagram followers after the final.

But the scenes left people wondering how he managed to join in the celebrations and roam the grounds of his own free will.

Salt Bae became a viral star in 2017 for its extravagant method of seasoning and preparing meat in its restaurants.

His upscale restaurant chain “Nusr-Et” can be found in cities like Dubai and New York, and is often frequented by celebrities.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino was once seen visiting one of his restaurants in Dubai, praising it as « the best of the best. »

The menu can cost customers thousands of dollars and includes its notoriously indulgent tomahawk steak wrapped in gold leaf.

Salt Bae was a regular face at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and during one game he was seen posing in the VIP seats with Infantino and a host of Brazilian soccer legends.
