SAANICH, B.C. — The chief of the Saanich, B.C., police department says explosive devices were found in a vehicle linked to the suspects who were shot outside a bank.
Chief Constable. Dean Duthie says an RCMP explosives disposal unit was able to transfer the devices from a vehicle to a local landfill and destroy them.
Six officers were shot and two suspects were killed in the shootout with police yesterday.
Duthie says three of the officers remain in hospital, including one who is in intensive care, while another officer will have to undergo further surgery.
He says police are still investigating the possibility of a third suspect, although they don’t believe there is a risk to the public.
Police say they are still trying to confirm the identities of the suspects.
