Europe’s record heatwave is scorching the continent

Temperature records have been broken in Europe and the UK as extreme heat has swept across the region over the past week.

Hundreds of people died, including 659 people in Portugal. Thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes as wildfires have scorched swathes of southern Europe.
