EU country plans to build wall on its border with Russia — RT Russia and the former Soviet Union

Senior Polish official suspects Russia of staging migration crisis on Polish border with Kaliningrad
Warsaw should consider building “battlementson its border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad to prevent the potential influx of African and Asian migrants to Poland, Krzysztof Sobolewski, the secretary general of the ruling Law and Justice party, revealed on Tuesday.
In an interview with Radio Polskie, he expressed concern about a possible repeat of the 2021 migrant crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border. He quoted a « hybrid warfare“allegedly unleashed by Minsk and Moscow as a reason for its concern, as well as the opening of the skies of Kaliningrad to flights”from Turkey, Syria and Belarus.
« We will have to reinforce our forces on this section of the border and also consider building border fortifications similar to the ones we currently have on the Polish-Belarusian section.“, said the official.
Sobolewski revealed that he viewed last year’s crisis on the Belarusian border, as well as the potential future crisis on the border with Kaliningrad, as part of a « hybrid warfare, allegedly launched by Russia and Belarus. Poland must do everything in its power to prevent Moscow and Minsk from succeeding, he said.
In a subsequent commentary for Reuters, Sobolewski predicted that migrants could start trying to cross from Kaliningrad to Poland in the very near future.
« After what we have had to face, and what we still have to do at the Polish-Belarusian border, and given the opening of the skies over the Kaliningrad region for planes from Turkey, Syria and Belarus, it could be in the next few weeks“said Sobolewski.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the idea of building a wall on the Polish side of the border, said that « Russia cannot and will not interfere in such decisions.”
« History proves each time the stupidity of the decisions to build walls, because over the years or decades, all the walls come down », he said.
The migrant crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland began in June last year, when Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said his government would no longer help the EU to end illegal immigration since his country does not have the budget to do so due to the bloc’s own sanctions. . The Brussels and Polish authorities accused him of « militarizemigrants by flying them into his country and transporting them to the border, allegedly as part of a “wa hybridr” against the West. Minsk denied the charges.
The crisis prompted Finland’s parliament to approve new security measures along the country’s border with Russia. Earlier this month, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said she believed there was « broad supportamong lawmakers for the construction of a border fence.
