Warsaw should consider building “battlementson its border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad to prevent the potential influx of African and Asian migrants to Poland, Krzysztof Sobolewski, the secretary general of the ruling Law and Justice party, revealed on Tuesday.

In an interview with Radio Polskie, he expressed concern about a possible repeat of the 2021 migrant crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border. He quoted a « hybrid warfare“allegedly unleashed by Minsk and Moscow as a reason for its concern, as well as the opening of the skies of Kaliningrad to flights”from Turkey, Syria and Belarus.

« We will have to reinforce our forces on this section of the border and also consider building border fortifications similar to the ones we currently have on the Polish-Belarusian section.“, said the official.

Sobolewski revealed that he viewed last year’s crisis on the Belarusian border, as well as the potential future crisis on the border with Kaliningrad, as part of a « hybrid warfare,allegedly launched by Russia and Belarus. Poland must do everything in its power to prevent Moscow and Minsk from succeeding, he said.

In a subsequent commentary for Reuters, Sobolewski predicted that migrants could start trying to cross from Kaliningrad to Poland in the very near future.
