Around 1:30 p.m., a call to 911 indicated that an individual, possibly armed, had made threatening remarks to a student at Polyvalente Le Carrefour on Chemin de la Savane.
The Gatineau police then began a major deployment of police officers at the school and in the area near the Les Promenades Gatineau shopping center.
“In agreement with the management of the Polyvalente Le Carrefour, a ‘white code’ has been triggered as a preventive measure. As a result, students and staff were confined inside the school for the duration of the intervention, while any threats were averted,” a police press release later said.

An investigation has identified suspects in connection with the incident, and individuals matching those descriptions are those arrested near the arena, police said.
The confinement was gradually relaxed, ending around 4:30 p.m. No injuries were reported.
Police also said rumors circulating on social media suggested an armed person was inside the school. However, this information was quickly denied by the police department, which issued a reminder to the public on the “the importance of trusting official sources when a major police operation is underway and not spreading misinformation or unverified information.
The Gatineau police statement also said officers would be at Polyvalente Le Carrefour on Wednesday for a « debriefing » with school officials and students.
“The investigation is ongoing and charges could be laid. An update will follow in due course,” he added.
