Emergencies Act investigation is federal, not provincial, says Doug Ford

TORONTO — Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the Emergencies Act inquiry is a federal proceeding into the federal government’s use of the law, not a provincial matter.
His comments during Question Period in the Ontario Legislative Assembly come as he fights a subpoena at the inquest.
Ford says the investigation is a police matter, not a political one.
The Public Order Emergency Commission is examining the federal government’s use of the Emergencies Act to end so-called Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa and Windsor last winter.
The commission summoned Ford and then-Attorney General Sylvia Jones to testify on Monday.
Lawyers for Ford and Jones yesterday filed an application for judicial review seeking to quash the subpoena, citing parliamentary privilege.
