« Moments later and several miles away, the SUV, traveling northbound on 18th Street, lost control, left the roadway and struck a tree, » said the EPS communications manager, Carolin Maran, in a press release Thursday afternoon. « Emergency medical services responded, treated and transported the driver to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger was examined at the scene and was not injured. She is now in custody. «
Officers continue to investigate and criminal charges are pending against the driver and passenger of the vehicle. EPS’ Major Collision Investigation Section is investigating the collision. Speed is thought to be a factor, Maran said.
