A major drama unfolded in the West Bengal Assembly on Thursday, September 4, when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the BJP wanted to make the state its colony.

Speaking in the Assembly, CM Mamata said, “The BJP has a dictatorial and colonial mentality, and it wants to make Bengal its colony. »

She added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) “sold India’s prestige” to foreign powers, with the Center sometimes seen “begging” from the United States, and sometimes from China, news agency PTI reported.

The Chief Minister’s remarks were marred by slogans raised by opposition MLAs.

Following the ruckus, Bengal BJP chief Sankar Ghosh was suspended from the state Assembly by Speaker Biman Benerjee for the rest of the day.

However, he refused to leave the House after the suspension. Ghosh was later expelled from the assembly.

The Assembly also discussed the issue of attacks on Bengali-speaking migrant workers in various states of the country. But the BJP members shouted slogans from the start of the discussion.

Following which, Banerjee said, “Bengal BJP is against any assembly discussion on attacks on migrants as incidents are happening in states ruled by the saffron party. »

“We are not against Hindi or any other language, but the BJP is anti-Bengali,” she added, according to PTI.

The West Bengal CM also said that the state government was mulling over legal options to appoint “corrupt” teachers of SSC exam 2016 to Group C and Group D posts.

“The Bengal government has started a process of recruiting ‘untouched’ candidates for the Teacher Recruitment Test 2016,” she told the Assembly.

Later, an ambulance arrived at the West Bengal Assembly as BJP MP Shankar Ghosh’s health deteriorated following the ruckus and altercation in the House.

Other BJP MLAs suspended from the Assembly included Agnimitra Paul and Mihir Goswami, according to ANI.
