President Donald Trump became the last curator to criticize the selection of the half-time interpreter of this year’s super bowl, the Puerto Rican megastar Bad Bunny, declaring to Greg Kelly de Newsmax that the choice was “absolutely ridiculous”.
“I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they are doing that – it’s like crazy,” said Trump in the interview on Monday evening. “They reject the fault on a promoter whom they hired to offer entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
The Half-time artists of the Super Bowl are selected by the NFL in collaboration with Apple Music and Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by Jay-Z.
Bad Bunny, who performs mainly in Spanish, was announced as an artist at the half-time of the Super Bowl this year at the end of September. Three times a winner of a Grammy Award and which released his latest album, “Debí Tirar Más Fotos”, in January, he will be the first Latin American man to appear at the head of the half-time show. He also led the first of the season of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend.
Earlier this year, the singer, songwriter and producer used his platform to ridicule Trump for his immigration policy. He said he hadn’t planned any stops in the United States’s continental area during his last tour, fearing that the American immigration and customs services will make a descent into concert halls.
Three days after Bad Bunny was announced as the half-time artist of the February 8 match in Santa Clara, California, a Trump administration official said that ICE agents are present in the match.
“There is nowhere where you can offer a refuge to people who are illegally in this country. Not at the Super Bowl, and nowhere else,” said Corey Lewandowski, principal advisor to interior security Kristi Noem, during an appearance on “The Benny Show”, animated by the conservative podcaster Benny Johnson. “We will find you. We will understand you. We will put you in a detention center and we will get expelled.”
During an appearance on the same show on Friday, Noem echoes the comments of Lewandowski, and when Johnson suggested that the selection of Bad Bunny could be a message from the NFL to the Trump administration, she said: “They are zero, and we will win, and God will bless us. »»
The NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comments on Tuesday.
The selection of Bad Bunny was greeted with joy by Zaileen Janmohamed, President and Managing Director of the Bay Area host committee.
“We are convinced that Bad Bunny will offer an unforgettable experience to fans of Levi’s Stadium and spectators around the world,” he said at the time in a statement. “This selection further amplifies the position of the Bay Area as a destination of choice for world -class events, and we look forward to a spectacular spectacle that highlights the unique spirit and the diversity of our region.”
