LOS ANGELES — Clayton Kershaw was placed on injured reserve by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
On Thursday, the left-hander had to cut short a start due to lower back pain.
The 34-year-old gunner remains among the crippled for the second time this season, after inflammation in the pelvis.
Winner of three Cy Young trophies in the National, Kershaw had to quit in the fifth inning Thursday.
A member of nine all-star teams, he is 7-3 with an average of 2.64 this season in 15 outings.
He has, however, gone 0-1 in his last three starts in July.
