Do you want to be a “Vistarak” BJP in Western Bengal? Written examination, group discussion part of the selection process

Before the elections in the 2026 assembly, the Bharatiya Janata (BJP) party in Western Bengal implements a strict selection procedure for its “Vistarak”, full -time party employees in charge of coordinating the base.

Vistarak’s positions were traditionally filled with loyalty and organizational experience. However, the leadership of the State BJP has chosen to use this new selection process to improve professionalism and appease the previous accusations of favoritism.

Although the group discussion tests the capacities of leadership and communication of candidates, the written examination will assess their understanding of the philosophy and the policies of the party.

According to News18, the party received around 500 requests. The state has 294 seats. This is the first time that candidates will have a written test, then participate in a group discussion to ensure that only eligible candidates represent the party at the stand level.

The highest official of the BJP of Western Bengal, Rathindranath Bose, stressed that this strategy is not new, and the aim of formalizing this procedure is to make the selection process of Vistarak more transparent and based on merit.

“In Bengal, young people generally opt for three professions – doctors, engineers and teachers. We have seen doctors protest for months, the teachers’ scam left them unemployment and engineers were looking for a job in other states,” said Keya Ghosh, the co -responsible for the Bengal BJP media, News18.

It is logical that young people who support the BJP wish to pass the word on change in each house, she said, adding that the party had to go through the screening procedure due to the volume of the candidates.

According to reports, Sunil Bansal, in charge of the BJP Bengal, had the idea of a written exam and the group discussion to “filter only in those whose ideologies align with those of the BJP”.

BJP workers who are engaged in the awareness of the base and organizational growth are known as “Vistaraks”. The literal sense of “Vistarak” is “the one that develops / spreads”.

Under the Minister of the Interior, Amit Shah, who chaired the BJP from 2014 to 2019, the idea was brought back to life and formalized.

The Vistaraks chosen will go through a two -day training session to give them the skills they need for their tasks when the selection process is finished, which should be finished at the end of the Durga Puja festival.

A “Vistarak” will be assigned to a assembly seat in Bengal after Diwali, and they will stay there until the end of the elections.

The “Vistarak” will draw weak stands, will strengthen local committees, work with local leaders, staff of the stands of forms, to collect information and to present themselves to the party.
