Democratic Chicago alderman says anti-ICE chaos proves need for National Guard deployment

Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez, a Democrat, says the speeches by the Illinois governor and Chicago mayor are pushing the city and country toward a dangerous situation. He added that anti-ICE radicals are showing why deploying National Guard troops is necessary.

“This city’s politics and hyper-progressive liberalism are bringing us closer to the brink of an escalation that I don’t think any of us really want to see,” Alderman Lopez said in a statement. New York Post interview. “The governor, the mayor, with a wink and a nod, told everyone to protest peacefully. And we saw the exact opposite happen.”

He said the mayor and governor were playing “a game of chicken with other people’s lives.”

Lopez told the Job that actions such as the Chicago Police Department ordering officers not to respond to calls for help from federal agents, a claim the city denies, motivated President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops to the Windy City, calling it a “foregone conclusion.”

“If we don’t allow law enforcement to protect (ICE) and keep the peace with our residents, then the president of the United States will certainly take that action,” the southern alderman said. Job. “We cannot let our citizens think they can take up arms against the federal government without facing consequences. »

He stressed that the city needs a common-sense approach to stopping its worst criminals. He added that the city should coordinate with the federal government to “surgically” remove them.

“We’re explaining why we need the National Guard more than ever, as people choose to try to attack federal law enforcement officers here in the city of Chicago,” Lopez said.

Members of the Texas National Guard were federalized by President Trump in a deal with Gov. Greg Abbott and deployed to Chicago on Tuesday, Breitbart Texas reported. “No Guard can match the training, skills and expertise of the Texas National Guard. They defend our country with pride,” the Texas governor said. He reminded the public that Texas has thousands of National Guard troops and airmen who help secure the Texas-Mexico border.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson called the deployment “unlawful and unconstitutional.” Adding: “It’s dangerous, it’s wrong.”

Currently, the scope of the Texas National Guard’s mission in Chicago remains unclear. However, with increasing violence against Border Patrol and ICE agents and agents, the need for additional security is evident.
