Dearest “Marilyn”…

It is now the work of the XXe most expensive century ever sold at auction. Shot Sage Blue Marilyn by Andy Warhol flew on May 9, 2022 at Christie’s in New York for 195.04 million dollars (183 million euros), in a record year for the art market. This silkscreen on canvas is part of a series of five « Marilyn » made by the master of pop art in 1964, two years after the star’s suicide, from a promotional photograph of the film niagara (1953). Barely finished, four of them had been shot in Warhol’s Factory by an artist, Dorothy Podber, hence their name “Shot Marilyn”. Something to spice up the aura of this tragic icon a little more.
