Danielle Smith will be sworn in as Alberta’s 19th premier on Tuesday

The new leader of Alberta’s United Conservative Party is due to be sworn in as the province’s 19th premier on Tuesday.

Danielle Smith won the leadership race to replace Premier Jason Kenney last Thursday.

Smith is due to hold a press briefing with reporters on Tuesday afternoon after his first cabinet meeting.

She said a new cabinet would be announced on October 21.

Smith does not have a seat in the Legislative Assembly, but announced this weekend that she would run in a Brooks-Medicine Hat by-election.

That seat became vacant when current constituency representative Michaela Frey resigned her seat on Friday.
