Damaige Plascencia convicted of raping Colorado woman

A Colorado man has been convicted of raping a woman in the same apartment he lived in after the power to the home was cut off, prosecutors and a news report say.
The Weld County District Attorney’s Office announced Tuesday that Damaige Plascencia, 30, was convicted last week of the horrific 2016 attack that could land him in jail for the rest of his life.
The unsuspecting victim arrived at her apartment in Evans on the night of Dec. 30, 2016, and went up to the second floor to take a shower when all the lights went out, the district attorney’s office said.
She got out of the shower and headed to her bedroom where Plascencia grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth with his hands and blankets, the prosecutor’s office said.
He raped her for about 10 minutes before fleeing, prosecutors say.
Although the victim did not see the culprit, she recognized his voice when he said « hush » because he had been living in the house as a roommate before the victim’s daughter kicked him out, a reported KMGH-TV, citing an affidavit of arrest.
The wife and daughter had a bad feeling about him, the affidavit allegedly said.
He was arrested and charged after a DNA match returned in May 2017, prosecutors said.
Plascencia was convicted of sexual assault, kidnapping and burglary and could face between 88 years and life in prison with a sentence set for March 22, 2023, the district attorney’s office said.
