COVID-19: Quebec reports 10 new deaths and a slight increase in hospitalizations

MONTREAL — Quebec is reporting 10 new deaths linked to COVID-19 and a further slight increase in hospitalizations.

Of the 10 deaths reported Friday, none have occurred in the past 24 hours. Two deaths were recorded between two and seven days ago and eight more than seven days ago.

Authorities are reporting 1,568 hospitalizations, an increase of 19 from the previous day. Of this total, 510 hospitalizations are directly related to COVID-19.

There are 40 patients in intensive care, four more than in the previous report.

The Ministry of Health has also reported 823 new cases, although the number of cases listed is not representative of the situation since access to screening centers is restricted to priority clienteles.

According to the Health-Quebec dashboard published on Twitter, the positivity rate was 8.9%, one percentage point more than the day before.

The number of healthcare workers absent for reasons related to COVID-19 fell from 3,689 to 3,303.

A total of 164 rapid tests were self-reported for Thursday, including 134 positives. The total stands at 290,086 self-reported rapid tests so far, including 244,147 positives.

In terms of vaccination, 23,589 doses administered are added, for a total of more than 21.1 million doses administered in Quebec.
