On August 19, Health Canada approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine for booster doses in children in this age group.
At the same time, the National Advisory Committee on Immunization has recommended that children with underlying health conditions be offered a booster no sooner than six months after their second dose and that all other children in that group of age may also be offered a recall.
“Vaccines remain one of the most important layers of protection we can access for ourselves and our children. This booster dose is an important option for families, especially those with children with medical risk factors,” Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said in a statement.
Pediatric boosters will be administered at Alberta Health Services clinics across the province as well as at select pharmacies.
Appointments must be booked through Alberta’s online vaccine reservation system or by calling Health Link at 811.
