Collapse of a balcony in Laval: a baby seriously injured, but out of danger
LAVAL, Que. — A balcony on the third floor of an apartment building in Laval suddenly collapsed Saturday night with three adults and a 13-month-old baby on it.
The infant was seriously injured, but there are no fears for his life. He is currently being cared for at the CHU Sainte-Justine. The other three adults, two men and a woman who are family members, suffered minor injuries. They were transported to hospitals.
Around 5:30 p.m. a call was made to 9-1-1 about people injured following a serious fall due to the balcony which collapsed. The balcony was at the back of the residential building on Hôtel-de-Ville Boulevard and overlooked the parking lot.
« The forensic identification and crimes against the person unit moved to the scene to shed light on the event, » said Laval Police Department spokesperson Erika Landry.
At this time, it is not known what caused the balcony to collapse. The investigation is continuing.
