Coffees and pastries avoid the aftershocks of inflation

Americans dined out less as inflation surged this summer, but couldn’t help but shell out more at cafes and pastries.

Total consumer spending fell 3.1% in June from a year earlier in restaurants analyzed in a report by financial services provider Rabobank using data from Earnest Research. But spending at coffee shops and bakery shops rose 1.9% over the period, the report said.
