Codelco workers in Chile threaten Wed strike over lack of investment in smelter

SANTIAGO — Workers at Chile’s state-owned Codelco, the world’s largest copper producer, threatened a company-wide strike on Wednesday over a lack of investment in the smelter in difficulty of Ventanas from the mining company.

Codelco announced last week that it had shut down its Ventanas smelter and refinery to carry out maintenance work after authorities declared an environmental emergency in the area earlier in the week. (Reporting by Fabian Cambero; Writing by Anthony Esposito; Editing by Chris Reese)
