CNN questioned after changing red background of Biden’s speech

CNN is facing questions from critics after the network was taken down by changing the lighting for President Biden’s speech on Thursday, softening blood-red hues to calmer shades of pink.

The president has come to withered mockery online for the harsh black and red background, with many comparing the optic to “Star Wars” and “V for Vendetta”.

While networks like CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and C-SPAN carrying the speech all originally appeared consistent, CNN noticeably changed the background color from red to pink in real time.

Eagle-eyed cable viewers flocked to the shift. The story was first reported in Mediaite, which put CNN images side-by-side with other networks, showing that the CNN switch was not a technical issue that affected all networks.

“CNN appears to have changed the video of Biden’s speech from demonic red to Pepto-Bismol pink. Very helpful, as we needed a lot of Pepto-Bismol to get by!” said former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee .

The CNN broadcast appeared to show a pink background behind Biden.
The network claimed it was a technical issue with the CBS pool stream.

A CNN rep said the issue was caused by a technical issue with the CBS pool feed.

Although Biden promised to deliver a unifying speech on the “battle for the soul of the nation”, he was lambasted by supporters as a source of division and fear. Many clung to his claims that “MAGA Republicans” were a threat to the country – which the president later backtracked.

“I don’t see any Trump supporter as a threat to the country,” he told Fox News on Friday. “I think anyone who calls for the use of violence, refuses to recognize an election… changing the way you count votes is a threat to democracy.”
