OPENAI, the company that developed Chatgpt, announced on Monday new parental controls aimed at helping to protect young people who interact with its generative program of artificial intelligence.

All Chatgpt users will have access to control features from Monday, the company said.

The announcement comes from Openai, which technically allows users as young as 13 Chatgpt safety For adolescents. (Openai says on his website that he forces users at 13 to 18 years to obtain parents’ consent before using Chatgpt.)

In August, the California -based technology company is committed to implementing changes to its flagship product after facing An unjustified death trial By parents of a 16 -year -old who alleged that the chatbot led their son to commit suicide.

The new OPENAI controls will allow parents to link their own chatgpt accounts to the accounts of their adolescents “and to personalize parameters for a safe experience and adapted to age,” said Openai in the announcement on Monday. Certain types of content are then automatically limited to the linked account of a teenager, including graphic content, viral challenges, role play “sexual, romantic or violent, and” extreme beauty ideals “, according to society.

In addition to the moderation of the content, parents can choose to receive an OpenAi notification if their child had potential signs of injuring themselves while interacting with chatgpt.

“If our systems detect potential damage, a small team of specially trained people examines the situation,” said the company. “If there are signs of acute distress, we will contact the parents by email, SMS and push alert on their phone, unless they have withdrawn.”

The company also said that it “worked on the right process and the right circumstances to reach the application of the law or other emergency services” in an emergency where a teenager can be imminent and that a parent cannot be reached.

“We know that some teenagers are turning to Chatgpt during difficult times, so we have built a new notification system to help parents know if something can be seriously bad,” said Openai.

Openai has introduced other recently measures to help protect younger chatgpt users. The company said earlier this month that chatbot users identified as under 18 will be automatically directed to a version governed by content rules “adapted to age”.

“The way Chatgpt responds to a 15 -year -old child should be different from the way he reacts to an adult,” said society at the time.

However, he noted on Monday that, even if the railings help, “they are not infallible and can be bypassed if someone intentionally tries to get around them”.

People can use chatgpt without creating an account, and parental commands and automatic content limits only work if users are connected.

“We will continue to iterate and improve carefully over time,” said society. “We recommend that parents speak with their teenagers about the healthy use of AI and what it looks like for their family.”

The Federal Trade Commission began an investigation into several social information and artificial intelligence companies, including OPENAI, on potential damage to adolescents and children who use their chatbots as companions.
