Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi, AAP) | In March 2024, the Delhi in -exercise -in -in chief was placed in detention by the Directorate of the Application of Laws (ED) and the CBI for alleged violations in the Delhi’s excise policy. He spent about five months in prison and benefited from a 15 -day provisional deposit to go to the Lok Sabha elections. After being released on bail in September 2024, he resigned from his post as chief minister.
Manish Sisodia (Delhi, AAP) | Former Delhi’s former deputy Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, was arrested in February 2023 by the CBI, and then by the ED, as part of the Delhi’s excise policy under the PMLA and the corruption prevention law. He spent about 17 months in detention and resigned shortly after his arrest. He was released on bail by the Supreme Court in August 2024.
Satyendar Jain (Delhi, AAP) | The leader of the AAP, Satyendar Jain, was arrested in May 2022 by the ED for allegations of money laundering under the PMLA. He spent about 18 months in prison, remaining minister for nine months during this period. V Senthil Balaji (Tamil Nadu, DMK) | The Minister of DMK, Senthil Balaji, was arrested in June 2023 for accusations of money laundering linked to alleged bribes for jobs during his mandate as Minister of Transport under the AIADMK government. He spent 15 months in police custody and suffered a bridging during this period. He was released on bail in September 2024.
Nawab Malik (Maharashtra, PCN) | Former minority minister of Maharashtra minority, Nawab Malik, was arrested in February 2022 by ED for money laundering under PMLA, in a case linked to the Dawood Ibrahim gangster. Partha chatterjee (Western Bengal, TMC) | The former minister of education of Western Bengal, Partha Chatterjee, was arrested in July 2022 as part of a “money against employment” scam under the PMLA and the law on the prevention of corruption. Anil Deshmukh (Maharashtra, PCN) | The former Minister of the Interior of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh, was arrested in November 2021 for accusations of corruption and money laundering. He spent about 13 months in detention, was released on deposit in December 2022 and is currently not part of the Maharashtra cabinet. (Image: News18)
Shibu Soren (Jharkhand, JMM) | The former chief minister of Jharkhand, Shibu Soren, was arrested in March 2021 in a carbon scam. He spent about six months in prison, was released on bond and resumed his political activities.
DK Shivakumar (Karnataka, Congress) | The Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, was arrested in September 2019, as part of a silver laundering case filed by the ED. He spent about 50 days in Tihar prison before being released on bail by the High Court of Delhi. The Supreme Court then rejected the case in March 2024.
