Canadian Women’s Wheelchair Basketball Team Beat USA to Win Gold at Americas Cup

Cindy Ouellet had 30 points and seven assists as Canada beat the United States 76-68 on Monday in the women’s final of the 2022 Americas Cup wheelchair basketball tournament in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Kady Dandeneau added 21 points while grabbing 13 rebounds for the Canadiens, and was named a tournament star with Ouellet following the win.

Canada went undefeated throughout the event, including a 100-30 victory over Argentina on Sunday to qualify for the world championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November.

The Canadians were in control for much of the game, leading 44-27 at halftime and 58-47 going into the fourth.

Canada led by no less than 19 points.

« That’s what we came here to do, so it’s good, » Dandeneau said. « USA gave us our money’s worth, they always do. It was a good push, but we got in, did what we wanted to do, and now we’re aiming for Worlds. »

The Canadian men won bronze earlier Monday, beating host Brazil 56-46.

The men also qualified for the world championships with a 77-73 quarter-final win over Colombia on Saturday.
